People ingest 2,000 pieces of microplastic per day on average: Study Updated: 2019-06-12 17:04:47 KST

A recent study shows that a person ingests an average of two thousand pieces of microplastic each week - the same weight as a credit card.
The joint study conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature and Newcastle University found that the most common way of ingesting microplastic is by drinking water, followed by consuming shellfish, salt and beer.
It's the first time the exact microplastic intake has been measured, which will help scientists figure out the potential dangers of microplastic to the human body.
