British PM May to resign as party leader on June 7 Updated: 2019-05-25 09:34:19 KST

British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that she will step down as the Conservative Party's leader on June 7th.
In an emotional speech on Friday local time, May said she had done her best to deliver Brexit and it was a matter of "deep regret" that she could not.
She said she would resign as party leader in two weeks' time. She will continue her duties as Prime Minister until her replacement is chosen.
Asked about May's exit, U.S. President Donald Trump said he feels badly for her as she had worked very hard, but that her resignation is ultimately good for the UK.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron urged "swift clarification" on Brexit, as the European Union ruled out any changes to its Brexit policy.
