President Moon says the eastern province of Gangwon-do is the new symbol of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
During a trip to the region on Friday, focusing on the economy, the president met with government officials and business leaders about ways to foster economic growth through peace.
He highlighted that it was where the so-called PyeongChang "peace" Olympics were held last year.
He also promised to promote tours and festivals in the demilitarized zone, and to work to resume tours to North Korea's Geumgangsan Mountain.
President Moon also expressed high hopes of connecting the region to Eurasia through railways and making it the logistics hub of Northeast Asia.
He called for joint efforts between the central government and the province to lay the groundwork for future inter-Korean economic projects.
