U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he can envision the United States and North Korea agreeing to hold talks at some point. as a precursor to formal negotiations.
Speaking in Vietnam, where he is accompanying President Trump at the APEC Summit, Tillerson said the U.S. has two or three channels by which they can send messages to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and receive them back.
Tillerson said that, eventually, the day will come when both countries give a thumbs up to have their first conversation, but Kim would have to give some kind of gesture for a meeting.
He said the U.S. wouldn't threaten North Korea, if the regime gave up its nuclear weapons.
