U.S. security checkpoints fail to detect banned items 80% of the time: ABC News Updated: 2017-11-10 09:57:01 KST

Undercover tests by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have found that U.S. airport security checkpoints failed to detect banned items more than half of the time.
The specifics haven't been released, but according to ABC News, a source close to the classified report confirmed the failure rate is "in the ballpark" of 80 percent.
Inspectors found vulnerabilities with both screening equipment and related procedures, and made eight recommendations for improvement.
U.S. lawmakers have called the failures "disturbing," and said the Transportation Security Administration is "badly broken."
