South Korea to hold public hearing on Seoul-Washington free trade deal Updated: 2017-11-10 07:30:11 KST

A public hearing on the South Korea-U.S. free trade deal is kicking off right about now in Seoul.
Officials say it's a platform for citizens, policymakers and trade experts to pitch their ideas and opinions on the issue.
Hosted by the trade ministry, the hearing is a process that must be completed before the government can officially open talks with Washington on amending the five-year-old FTA.
The ministry says it will reflect the opinions in their plans and notify the National Assembly of its intention to renegotiate the deal before the end of the month.
The process was initiated by President Trump, who has repeatedly called for a fair trade deal with Seoul.
