WMO expresses its concern about N. Korea's low precipitation rate this year Updated: 2017-11-08 12:25:02 KST

The United Nations' weather and climate agency is expressing concern about the low amount of rainfall in North Korea this year.
The World Meteorological Organization says North Korea's rainfall from January to June was 51-percent below average, the lowest since national records began in 1973.
The report continued by saying this year's lack of rainfall had a negative impact on North Korea's food security as it has damaged key staple crops such as rice and wheat.
Also, citing a research released by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, over 20 percent of livestock such as cattle, pigs, and sheep were severely affected by the drought.
