College grads account for 49.1% of Korea's unemployed Updated: 2017-10-01 10:12:53 KST

New data shows nearly half of Korea's 1 million unemployed people have a college degree.
According to Statistics Korea, as of August, the figure was at 491 thousand, or 49.1 percent, and from a year earlier, the number of unemployed college grads was up 13 percent.
Most of them have four-year degrees while about a third went to community college.
The job situation has been getting worse for those with degrees since the second half of last year, and it is an issue Seoul has identified after it was raised last Thursday when government ministers met to discuss the economy.
