Korea's main gateway is seeing the highest number of travelers to date.
The 10-day Chuseok holiday officially kicks off Saturday, but officials at Incheon International Airport are already estimating some 99-thousand Koreans flying out on Friday alone. In total, almost 2-million people are expected to travel abroad during the Chuseok holiday, which extends until October 9.
This comes to around 177-thousand a day, a more than 10-percent increase compared to last year.
"I'm going to Las Vegas with my sons because they can both take the week off work. I think it's great that we have this long holiday because young people get a chance to take a break."
"Our family's going to Honolulu for 10 days. I think it's great that Monday was turned into a one-off holiday so we can go far away for the break."
In preparation for the higher-than-average influx of travelers during this holiday period, the airport has taken special measures to make the process smoother.
For instance, travelers can check online the gates that are the most crowded at at any given time to prepare in advance.
The airport is also opening up the departure gates at 6 AM, 30 minutes earlier than usual, to accommodate more passengers in the early morning flights,.. up until next Tuesday. The first subway coming from Seoul Station to the airport will also start running 30 minutes earlier than usual at 4:50 AM.
Also, there are 'fast track passes' for travelers such as toddlers, pregnant women, and those over the age of 70 to make the checking process faster.
