Endangered sea turtles return to sea in Jeju Island Updated: 2017-09-29 11:49:15 KST

Endangered sea turtles were released on Jeju Island's Jungmun Beach on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to conserve the global sea turtle population.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries selected the beach, a former spawning ground, as a starting point for the turtles because it allows for easy relocation to the warm Pacific Ocean.
Of the 83 turtles, three were rescued to be treated …while 80 baby turtles were born through artificial incubation at an aquarium in Yeosu earlier this year.
Six out of seven species of sea turtles around the world are currently classified as endangered or threatened.
