Fireworks lit up the night sky in Chuncheon on Saturday.
Marking just over 200 days until the start of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, a fireworks festival was held in the city east of Seoul, located halfway along the route to the Olympic host cities of Pyeongchang and Gangneung.
Under the theme 'The ONE', thousands of visitors gathered to celebrate the 200 day mark.
Visitors enjoyed music, ranging from Bukmu, the traditional Korean drum dance, to flashmobs, as well as theme songs from past Olympics and football World Cups, which helped people get into the Olympic spirit.
The event also introduced the theme song for the Olympic torch relay, "Let Everyone Shine", which was sung by popular Korean singer and Olympic ambassador Insooni.
And to wish for a successful Winter Games, several important figures, including the National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun and Culture Minister Do Jong-hwan, wrote words of encouragement on a large balloon, which was then released into the sky.
Despite heavy showers during the day, many visitors came to show their support for the upcoming sporting event.
"I was worried because it was raining so hard a while ago, but then it stopped right before the fireworks started, and we were able to have a nice view of the show. I really enjoyed it."
"As a resident of Pyeongchang, I am happy to have participated in this festival, and I hope this was a chance to boost people's interest for the Olympics."
"With Monday marking exactly 200 days until the start of the Olympics, more exciting events are lined up throughout the week, including music festivals and a friendly match between the women's hockey teams of Korea and Sweden. Lee Ji-won, Arirang News, Chuncheon."
