Construction of two new nuclear power plants in Ulsan to be temporarily halted for safety concerns Updated: 2017-07-14 11:58:18 KST

The state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation has decided to temporarily HALT the construction of two nuclear reactors in the southeastern city of Ulsan.
The board had originally planned to meet Thursday, but had to postpone until today due to a strong backlash from the labor union and the plant's construction workers.
The Shin Kori five and six reactors are about 30 percent complete, and the government had ordered their construction to be suspended last month due to mounting safety concerns.
The move is in line with the Moon administration's promise to phase out nuclear power in favor of cleaner renewable sources.
