The number of unemployed people in Korea surpassed the one-million mark last year, with the figure rising 36-thousand compared to the year before.
Statistics Korea says the jobless rate stood at a record-high of three.seven percent in 2016, up zero.one percentage point on-year.
The youth unemployment rate, for those 15 to 29 years of age, stood at a record-high of nine.eight percent, up from nine.two percent the year before.
In terms of overall employment, 60.four percent of the working-age population had a job in 2016, edging up zero.one percentage point on-year.
Looking at December alone, the unemployment rate remained flat from the year before at three.two percent.
The respective youth jobless rate stood at eight.four percent.
